The mission of CIDLO shall be to set the State of Ohio interior design professional practice standards for education, experience, and examination required to protect the health and safety of the public. CIDLO shall promote a favorable business environment for interior designers in Ohio and protect their right to practice.
...the Coalition of Interior Designers for Legislation in Ohio. As an Ohio legislative grassroots organization, CIDLO exists first and foremost to establish a responsible level of interior design practice standards for those individuals that want to identify themselves as interior designers. The primary reason to distinguish the qualifications of the professional interior designer through legislation is to institute a level of protection for the consumer because of the health, safety, and public welfare issues that exist when interior environments are created. Ohio consumers need to know that the interior design professional has a distinct level of knowledge that can be identified as intelligent and responsible. It is CIDLO's goal to identify those designers who want to provide services that protect the consumer.
Secondly, CIDLO exists to create a favorable business environment for the interior design profession. Ohio is one of the leaders in the country with the number of accredited interior design programs and has five metropolitan business centers that could allow the profession to flourish. However, over the last 15 years the interior designers' right to practice in Ohio has diminished because interior designers can no longer submit their interior non-load bearing construction documents for building permits. When permitting is required, interior designers must add another level of cost to the consumer by turning their work over to an Ohio registered design professional to re-do their construction drawings, thus reducing the incentive for practicing. It is CIDLO's goal to prevent any regulation that restricts an interior designer's right to practice and places the profession at risk in Ohio.
We strongly believe through the establishment of interior design standards for education, experience, and examination we will build more safe, and healthy interior environments in Ohio.
